USPS Tracking
The United States Postal Service (USPS) offers USPS tracking for its priority packages. A USPS tracking number can be assigned to any qualified delivery that the postal service makes. The USPS tracking number may be applied to domestic and international deliveries with the purpose of keeping track of the package as it proceeds to its destination.
When you purchase a USPS tracking number, it is assigned to the package and can be found in the following places.
- Shipping receipt
- Sales receipt from the post office
- Email confirmation from USPS
- Shipping confirmation email from online retailer
- Bottom part of USPS tracking label
How Do I Track my USPS Package?
The first step is to have the assigned USPS tracking number with you. If you have received an email confirmation, the link provided will send you directly to the USPS site for deliveries. It will automatically bring up the USPS tracking information. If you do not have access to email, then you can go directly to the USPS site.
You can enter the USPS tracking number from one of the sources listed above. Enter the number on the USPS tracking package delivery site. For USPS tracking packages, you may visit the destination to see if the package has arrived.
As the package proceeds to its destination, it is scanned as it reaches various checkpoints. This usually includes shipping centers that are part of USPS. In this manner, you can keep track of your package as it passes each scan. When delivered to its final destination, you will either receive an email notice or it will be noted on the USPS tracking delivery site.
What Does USPS Tracking Number Look Like?
Although there are some variations depending on the service that is ordered, a USPS tracking number consists of 22 numbers divided into six separate sections. A sample number for USPS tracking looks something like this, 9400 1000 0000 0000 0000 00. The same is true for the following services from USPS.
- Priority Mail
- Certified Mail
- Collect on Delivery Hold for Pickup
- Priority Mail US
- Registered Mail
- Signature Confirmation
But there are exceptions to the 22 numbers for USPS tracking number purposes that include the following.
- Global Express Guaranteed: 82 000 000 00
- Priority Mail Express International: EC 000 000 000 US
- Priority Mail International: CP 000 000 000 US
USPS Delivery Times
The USPS tracking package delivery times will depend on the service that you have purchased. For USPS priority mail, the package will be delivered in one to three business days. The time it takes to reach its destination will depend on several factors. Most notable where the package originates, its destination, and any service interruptions that might occur.
In most cases across the US, a USPS tracking package for priority mail will be delivered seven days a week in most locations. All deliveries are supposed to be completed by 6pm local time. However, there are cases in which deliveries are made until 9pm. Such cases are usually due to cost cutting measures and other factors that affect normal delivery times.
